Standard Letterpress Papers

If you are opting for the luxurious, deep impressions of the letterpress printing process, our standard letterpress papers are an excellent choice. We use Crane Lettra’s tree-free, 100% cotton papers for most of our letterpress jobs. The soft, textured paper is perfect for impressing ink and is available in white, pearl and ecru.

Standard Digital Papers

Our digital papers are also recycled, containing 30% post-consumer waste and are Green Seal certified. Their smooth finishes are perfect for digital printing, producing a crisp, beautiful image. Our digital papers are also available in white, pearl or ecru.

We recently made a video that combines two of my favorite things: tree-free 100% cotton fiber paper and letterpress.

The first part of printing every letterpress job (yes, including yours) is making sure that the paper is feeding properly.

Brides to be, you all know that I am very fond of earth-friendly and green alternatives when it comes to your wedding. I have written many updates about the ways to help save the environment, keep your marriage planning as ecological as possible, and to use only the most harmless materials in your wedding invitation sets.

But today I am here to offer a different perspective. While tree free paper, soy oil inks and printers that use renewable energy sources are always a plus, when is going digital as a means to save resources not the best idea?

Your wedding day is a once in a lifetime event. It is something that you look forward to all your life, and probably have been planning for years already (even if you were not yet officially engaged). While creating websites for RSVP information, details and directions can be an easy way to go green,  the impression that a physical invitation set creates when opened cannot be understated.

When sorting through your mail, how much of a greater impression does a personalized, beautiful, textured letterpress invitation make when compared to a small piece of paper directing you toward a website for further instructions? Likewise when was the last time you printed out an e-vite and displayed it somewhere in your home or kept it for a keepsake?

Formal printed letterpress wedding invitations are not only a timeless artisan creation that will never be ‘deleted,’ but they express an emotion and deliver a message in a way that no other method can compare to.

In our digital age, the electronic world can be a great help in reducing our carbon footprint, though sometimes we have to ask ourselves when the traditional methods of communication are still the best. For this one day event, ask yourself where the most efficient means of reducing your environmental impact truly are.

I love this time of the year. The bold summer heat has not yet started and the spring rains are dying down. Northern California is beautiful in May, especially in picturesque Sonoma County wine country. The vineyards are starting to grown again and the hillsides surrounding this area are handsomely covered in rows of grapevines. Birds are chirping and flowers are blooming. This really is an amazing place to live.

If I had to use one word to describe this season it would be green. So many rolling hills with forests and fields that are sprawling with new grass and leaves, I see green everywhere around me. Most home’s front lawns are looking lush from the March showers and all the seeds that were waiting patiently in the ground are now beginning to peak out their heads to see what the world has to offer.

Organic life is the most important part of our environment. We must remember the plants that feed our bodies, clean and help our air and make our flower beds look so colorful too. This is where the inspiration for “tree-free” paper comes from. Cutting down precious trees to make paper is no longer a necessary practice since it’s possible to use 100% recycled cotton paper instead. Now it is customary to create exquisite style letterpress wedding invitations exclusively with recycled cotton paper.

According to World Watch Institute, producing one ton of paper requires 2-3 times that weight in trees and more water per ton of product than any other industry.

Using recycled rather than virgin fibers on average generates 74% less air pollution and 35% less water pollution. Quite a savings!

If you are like me and care about the impact that we have upon the environment you may consider requesting 100% recycled cotton paper the next time you order letterpress printing.
