Affordable Indian Letterpress Wedding Invitation Cards

As many of you probably already know, Indian letterpress wedding invitation cards can be expensive. But that does not mean that Indian brides should sacrifice the wedding invitations of their dreams. The best part of my job here at Invitations by Ajalon is helping brides find the wedding card of that they simply cannot get married without, at price that their wallets are happy about.

To do this, I have come up with two simple steps that any bride can follow that will allow you to have a magical letterpress wedding card without an extraordinary price.

Look online for Discounts

Some professional Indian letterpress wedding invitation printers offer affordable specials on Indian wedding card discounts online. Before you commit to a specific wedding card printer, make sure to ask if they have any discounts, specials or seasonal markdowns on their designs.

RSVP Postcards

When sending 200+ wedding invitations in the mail, postage can become an expensive addition to the whole wedding invitation suite. Ordering letterpress wedding RSVP postcards can greatly reduce the costs of not only postage, but added printing and envelopes for a traditional RSVP card.

Alternative and Custom Wedding Invitations

Part of why I love writing about letterpress wedding invitations is it provides me with an opportunity to search around the internet and see what cool and innovative things that brides and couples are doing for their wedding invitations designs. People come up with the most creative ideas for wedding invitations and then post their ideas for the world to see, it’s amazing!

So I recently stumbled upon a youtube video that was actually one of the most artisan style wedding invitations I have ever seen. This couple wrote a song with all of their wedding ceremony details in it and sang it to a camera. Edit, post, send the link and bam, their invitation is in the ‘mail.’

While this is not as beautiful as a letterpress wedding invitation design, it is certainly a close second:

But remember, if your only reason for making a video wedding invitation is trying to save money, you should maybe try and check out some letterpress wedding invitation specials before you make up your mind one way or the other ;)

3 Ways to Save Money On Your Wedding Invitations
Without Sacrificing Quality
The Budget Bride’s Bible

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Brides to be, I know the economy is rough right now. While the talking heads on the television seem to indicate things are improving, for most people the penny pinching is long from over. While letterpress printing can be a little expensive, there are all kinds of different ways to save money and still have the invitation set of your dreams. To help you decide how to have your wedding invitations printed, I would like to give you a couple simple suggestions:

Printing the RSVP information on the Envelope

This saves the added cost of printing an extra piece of paper, and is particularly useful for those tech savvy brides that are coordinating RSVP information through a website. While this is not traditional etiquette, these are not traditional times. This is a great way to save money on postage  and actually looks quite beautiful!

Combine Enclosure Cards

Instead of printing two separate pieces for your insert cards, consider combining two cards into one. Not only is this eye catching and chic in all the right ways, but it also saves you money.

Mix Offset or Digital with Letterpress

While the impression, texture and emotional response that a letterpress wedding invitation evokes is unbeatable, if you are on a budget you might consider printing the RSVP, directions or envelopes on an offset press or digitally. Production costs are reduced and the printers will pass that savings on to you.

This bride saved by printing a digital rsvp so she could splurge on ribbon and a second paper layer for her invitation:

But also remember this is your special day. While costs should be a consideration, do not excessively cut back on the quality of the invitation you have been dreaming about just so you can save a little extra money. There are several different options that make it possible to have a beautiful letterpress invitation set that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg (or your firstborn).

5 Simple Tips for Saving on Wedding Invitations
How to be a Price Savvy Bride

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

While some news articles are saying that the economic crisis is starting to turn around, that does not mean our bank accounts are getting any bigger. With the spring wedding season just right around the corner, brides to be are looking for new ways to save on their wedding invitations.

I understand that times are tough, but that does not mean you should have to forget about your life-long dreams of having that perfect wedding. In an effort to save you money, I have developed a list of 5 easy steps to take when thinking about your wedding invitations.

1) Do It Yourself, With Friends and Family

While some brides may be fearful of the terms Do It Yourself, don’t forget that you are not alone in this process. Enlist the help of your family, friends and bridal party to save on cost and time. Create your own beautiful and custom envelope liners, invitation bellybands and self addressed envelopes. With a little extra effort from everyone, you can still have the custom invitation you want without the added price.

2) Find Amazing Package Deals

Look for that all-inclusive package sale or special deal. Some wedding invitation letterpress and offset printers offer the essential elements of an invitation set at a reduced rate. While it may not be the extravagant style you were looking for, typically the savings are quite extraordinary, and the quality is still top tier.

3) Remember to Save on Postage

When considering your invitation set, think about weight, size and shape. The USPS charges more for larger sizes and extra ounces, so consider scaling back those elaborate invitation concepts slightly and find something that will not incur added postage costs. Also, using online RSVP services or an RSVP postcard instead of the traditional reply card and envelope.

4) Shop Shop Shop

Not all printing companies are alike. Some charge up to twice as much for the same design, style and paper. Request quotes, compare prices, and find what you are looking for at the price that fits your budget.

5) Don’t Sacrifice Quality for Quantity

Just because you are on a budget does not mean you have to sacrifice your hopes of having a beautiful invitation for your wedding. Think about printing just the invitation in a two color theme and the RSVP and envelope with a single color. If you are looking for letterpress invitations, consider the less expensive alternative of printing the RSVP and envelope using offset or digital printing.

Whatever your price range there is most certainly an invitation set available that will not only fit your budget, but more importantly, impress you and your guests.

Do you have any special tips you have to save on your invitations? If so, please share with us. Thank you for reading and good luck on the marriage arrangements.

How To Insert An Envelope Liner

Friday, August 14th, 2009

It all started one hot summer afternoon. The boss was gone for the day, so we decided it would be a fun project to make a how-to video for a customer. After receiving some envelope liners for her invitation set, one bride to be was still a little confused exactly how the liners were supposed to be inserted into the envelopes.

This video details how simple and easy it is to line your envelopes, saving you money and starting your marriage off on the right foot, or the left (in case there are any lefties in our audience).

For those of you who do not have sound, video streaming technologies – or your boss can see your computer screen – below is a step by step account of the directions in the video:

Make sure your work surface/area are properly cleaned.

Then, insert one liner into the intended envelope and fold down the envelope flap.

Carefully run your fingers over the fold, so that you create a nice crease on the envelope liner. It might help to use a ruler or a straight edge for this part.

Next, lift up the envelope flap keeping the liner folded.

Run a glue stick over the edges of the back of the liner.

Close the envelope flap carefully and rub lightly making sure the liner sticks to the envelope. Set it aside, you are done with your first envelope…

See what an amazing job you just did! And how hard was that? Certainly much easier than trying to find the perfect dress ;)

Feel free to pass this video along to any friends, family members or co-workers that you think will benefit from viewing it.

Reducing Your Wedding Invitation Cost

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Ladies, think back to when you were a little girl. Did you dream about how you wanted your wedding to be when you “grew up?” Chances are that dream has changed a bit, especially in a time when many people are feeling the economic crunch. Maybe you feel like you have to throw away those dreams of a beautiful, elegant wedding because it is too costly. This is just not true.

Here are some ways to reduce the cost of your wedding invitations:

  • Send out RSVP postcards instead of an RSVP card with envelope. You’ll save on the cost of the envelope and it will mail for postcard rate.

  • Why pay to line your envelopes, or assemble belly bands? Assembling them yourself is easy and cost effective.

  • Instead of having addresses printed on the invitation envelopes, consider hand addressing them yourself, or enlisting the help of others to address them. Which leads to my next tip:

  • Have an “addressing party.” Get some girlfriends with good handwriting together and have an afternoon where you address and stamp envelopes. Give each person a list of names and a nice pen, or two. Have snacks and drinks available (just be sure not to spill!), and have a good time. This is a perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with your girlfriends.

  • Print only your invitation in two colors and the rest of your set in one color. Printing just one piece in two colors makes it the feature of the set.

I hope that these are ideas that will save you some money, while still allowing you to have the wedding you always dreamed of. You don’t need to spend your (or your parent’s) life savings on your wedding to create a memorable event for your guests.

Plan Your Dream Wedding and Still Save

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

I was reading the news recently and I stumbled upon a statistic that amazed me. According to a CNN survey, the average cost of weddings in the US is now over $25,000. That’s the cost of a new car, a down payment on a home (depending on where you live it may be the entire cost of a home) or a lifetime supply of Starbucks cappuccinos. Coupled with the current financial crisis, this giant price tag has kept many brides from having the wedding they always dreamed of and catapulted countless other newlyweds deeper into debt. But it does not have to be this way. There are several easy steps that any couple planning on tying the knot can take to reduce the cost of their nuptials:

Let me begin by saying that even though the rings are typically the most expensive part of a wedding, this does not mean you should try to cut costs here. The bling in your ring will last a lifetime, so buy accordingly.

Guest List: The first place to save is the guest list. Yes I know your step uncle’s great aunt Karen invites you over for dinner every three years, but does that really mean she needs to be present when you say “I Do”? Recently at one of my closest cousin’s wedding, I could not help but think to myself, who are half these people? With fewer guests, all of your reception costs will be lowered. Keep the list short and sweet and not only will your celebration be more intimate, you will probably end up saving hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.

Invitations: The next place to focus on is the invitations. We offer inexpensive, yet exquisitely unique, letterpress wedding invitations that are sure to impress your guests and not break the bank. Even when trying to save, no bride wants flat, boring invitations for their special day. Our experienced design team can custom create your invitation at a fraction of our competition’s costs. Venues: Depending on the season, hold your reception outside in a park or family member’s property. Saving on venues is an easy way to lower the cost without affecting your overall celebration.

If you simply must have your reception indoors, consider planning your wedding during the “slowest” time of the year when venue prices are the lowest.

Reception Music: Have someone create an awesome iPod playlist and skip the costs of a DJ. Rent some large speakers and you will be on your way to a huge savings.

Savvy Shopping: Consider using the internet to purchase necessary items for the wedding and reception. Though the cost difference may seem nominal, a little savings here and there can add up.
