Welcome to another edition of do-it-yourself Wednesday! Last week we covered invitation wording if the groom’s parents are hosting the wedding celebration. But what if parents are divorced? How do you word your wedding invitation then?

Add some color to your invites with a 2^nd paper layer!

Amongst all of the customization options out there for wedding invitations, a second paper layer has to be one of the easiest, most effective ways to add some color and “punch” to your invitation design. If you want to work a second hue into your one-color letterpress invitation without paying for an extra ink color, a second paper layer is the way to do it.

A second paper layer will create a “border” around your invitation design and is available in many different sizes, depending on how much of that border you want to show.

Your second paper layer will also add elegance to your invite that can be felt. When guests hold an invitation in their hands that is affixed to a second paper layer, it is automatically understood that time, energy, and planning went into creating that nuptial announcement.

Pantone’s Fabulous New Colors for Fall

We love Pantone over here at Invitations by Ajalon! It is our go-to color guide when designing new wedding invitation designs, and especially when we are customizing our existing designs to match our couples’ wedding color schemes!

We get super excited when the Fashion Color Reports come out, because they seriously influence the world. Designers and consumers focus their attention on the newly announced hues, so I am positive fall is about to be one chic season!

In the mix is the deep, rich French Roast. Perfect for the base color of your wedding color scheme, adding pops of bright colors—like the pink within our Sakura design—and modern sophistication.

Consider replacing your black or grey ink with French Roast on your formal letterpress wedding invitation. It will add warmth that you are sure to love in the Fall season.

Make sure your guests know where they’re going!

Maps are an excellent addition to your wedding invitation suite. If you are having a reception in a different location than your ceremony, or if your venue is simply in a tricky location, think about including a wedding map for your guests. After all, it’s no fun to be the late guest, and as bride or groom you probably want everyone in their appropriate seat on time!

Using hand-drawn maps are an especially amazing way to show guests the way. Your own handwriting along with little symbols will add charm and personality to a formal piece of stationery.

Digital cartography is also available if you have never been the artistic type. We’re definitely not recommending you print out a Google Map for your guests to use; we’re talking about beautiful, custom-made maps that will highlight your big day. Your wedding motif can be worked into your map, making sure guests are heading in the right direction.

We love these wedding trends over at Best Wedding Sites! Ombre cakes, confetti and chalkboard menus are all things we’ve seen pinned on Pinterest, and we just can’t get enough.

Two of my favorite trends on the list were invites with hand-drawn illustrations and signature drinks!

Hand-drawn graphics are an especially excellent touch for letterpress wedding invitations. The drawing is actually impressed into the paper, adding definition and charm to the art.

Everyone has a signature drink! Whether it is a virgin margarita or a whiskey sour, your signature drink is an expression of your personality, and everyone enjoys the way they taste. ; )

Guests need to know where to sit!

Whether your wedding will be a large, lavish affair with hundreds of guests or an intimate one with your closest friends and family, place cards for your dinner tables are a must!

Unless you want people rummaging around looking for “THE” seat or moving chairs to sit by an old friend, seriously consider place cards at individual place settings. Planning your seating arrangements and having place cards printed is a whole lot less stressful than dealing with the confusion on your big day!

There are many ways to create the ideal place cards for your guests. Tented or flat cards placed upon plates are a great options:

While using a cute stand makes it extra easy for guests to spot their names.

Attaching a tag to an element from your wedding theme is another great idea!

No matter how you display your place cards, just make sure you have them! ; )
