Now more than ever wedding rules are being bent and broken as modern brides make their way into the wedding arena. While this oftentimes makes for exciting and innovative wedding themes and styles, when it comes to wedding invitations there are a couple proper procedures and levels of etiquette that are recommended.

When it comes to wedding invitation designs and themes, the sky is the limit. But straying from the proper wedding invitation etiquette may end up embarrassing you or make your guests feel rather awkward.

To help us all feel as comfortable and excited as possible, I have come up with a short list of wedding invitation etiquette dos and don’ts:

Don’t mention specific gift ideas on the wedding invitation, this is only acceptable on a bridal shower invite.

Do direct wedding guests to your online blog, wedding website, or wedding registry to further gift information.

Don’t ask for specific his or her gifts, the wedding gifts are supposed to be for both of you. Again, the bridal shower is the place where you can gifts just for you.

Do use word of mouth or a personal wedding website if you are asking for cash gifts specifically.

Don’t mention on your invitation that you only want cash gifts

Do mention if it is a black tie event or children are not allowed.
