With all this talk about global climate change, I feel like a lot of people these days are looking for ways to be a little greener. Caring about the environment is no longer something only the ‘tree huggers’ do. Today it is easier than ever before to go green.

For any of you brides, grooms, or families of betrothed that are looking to be a little more earth conscious for your wedding, we created an easy list of steps you can take when ordering your letterpress or offset wedding invitations.

1. Print fewer inserts. Tech savvy brides are creating their own websites and directing their guests there to find out all the marriage details. Directions, maps, dates, details and even RSVPs are being delivered online. This saves on the added trees and costs associated with printing each separate piece of the invitation set. Here’s an example from our Savannah letterpress invitation set:

2. Print RSVP information on the envelope flap. If you are trying to lessen your carbon footprint, this chic new style is the ultimate in conservation. Simple instructions printed on the back of the envelope flap directs wedding guests to a website with further information and RSVP. No extra paper needed:

3. Eliminate the use of double envelopes. Include the number of guests on the RSVP card. This also helps with the “plus one” dilemma:

4. Use RSVP postcards instead of separate cards with envelopes. This saves on paper, pollution and postage fees.

5. Request 100% cotton paper. Crane’s Lettra, a soft, 100% cotton paper is our house paper for letterpress. It is milled from waste produced during the cotton ginning process. Ordinarily this cotton lint is thrown away as waste, but because it is made of the same stuff as paper (cellulose) it is possible to convert this cotton into a top quality, professional and beautiful sheet of paper.*

Hopefully these ideas helped you on your continued search for wedding invitations.
