Letterpress Invitations
Why chose letterpress invitations for your wedding? Your invitation sets the expectations for your special event. The design you choose-with its paper, style and wording-communicates more than just the time and date of your wedding.
Using letterpress gives you the option of using a wide range of paper, including handmade, organic, and tree free. Probably, no other form of imaging on paper allows you to utilize such a wide range of choices. The classic feel and finish of letterpress papers take us back to an era of quality and craftsmanship that is not often found today.
You actually see and feel the impression of the type into the paper. This is not some process where a machine runs at such speed that parts are just a blur. It harkens back to a time when excellence was the desired result, not expediency.
We at Ajalon Printing & Design work full time in the printing industry and are accustomed to working at the speed of next day delivery and the pace of commerce today with email, cell phone, instant messaging and the “need it now” expectations of business. But we also appreciate and practice the world of craftsmanship and honoring the materials and process of printing.
Many invitations are made using thermography today. This is a process where ink is printed on paper and then a plastic is sprayed over the ink and melted at high temperature. Heating the ink, paper, and plastic means that it all dries very quickly and printing can be finished and shipped in a matter of hours. Beautiful results can be had, but the process of melting plastic is not as aesthetically pleasing (and probably not as earth friendly) as inking a plate and impressing an image into the paper.
Letterpress is a specific printing process that offers you great depth and beauty to your invitation. When your guest receives a letterpressed invitation, it’s more like they are receiving a gift from you, rather than just receiving your invitation. With the touch and feel of fine, often handcrafted, paper with the letters and image pressed into the paper, it is like the difference in giving a loved one a hug, instead of just making a phone call. The feel is warmer and more personal. It is a classy way to say that you care.
